A long update can contain a clear decision and still leave its recipient wondering what to do. Give the handoff its own paragraph at the end.
State the result, the next action, who owns it, and any unresolved dependency. Use a date only when one has actually been agreed. If you need the recipient to choose an owner, say that instead of quietly assigning one.
Read the paragraph without the rest of the message. Would someone returning tomorrow understand the current position? Add only the context needed to act, and link to the longer account if it matters.
A handoff is complete when the person receiving it understands the request. Invite a correction if their reading differs from yours. Brevity is useful when it carries the responsibility clearly.

What would the recipient still need to ask?
