A map for a tiny explorer

Make an imaginary map of a place you know.

Activities · Independent readers · Original writing

Imagine that a tiny explorer arrives on your desk. A pencil becomes a fallen tree. A notebook becomes a wide plain. What would the explorer call a cup?

Draw a map using shapes for familiar objects. Add a key so another reader knows what the symbols mean. Choose a route from one safe starting point to another.

Leave one blank corner labelled “not explored yet.” A good map can show what its maker does not know. Keep the adventure on paper; you do not need to climb anything.

Pause & wonder

What changes when you imagine a familiar place at a different size?

Try a little activity

Write a postcard from your tiny explorer. Include one discovery and one question.
