The chair waits.
The window glows.
A pencil makes a road
across an empty page.
Somewhere in the quiet,
a beginning wakes.
A poem does not have to rhyme. It can make you notice an ordinary thing in a new way. This one imagines a pencil line as a road.
Choose one object. Write what it looks like, what sound it makes, and something it reminds you of. Put each idea on its own line.
Pause & wonder
What do you think is beginning in this poem?
Try a little activity
Write three lines about a cup, a shoe, or a leaf. Give your poem a title.
