Activities · Original writing
Draw four steps on paper. On the first, write who the character is. On the second, write what they want. On the third, write something that gets in the way. On the fourth, write what they try.
For example: a tiny robot wants to hear the rain, but the window is closed, so it asks a friend to describe the sound. Your character can choose another way.
Turn the steps into four sentences. You may add an ending, or leave a question for a reader to answer.
Try a little activity
Draw the final scene twice, with two different possible outcomes.
Pause & wonder
Does a character need to succeed for the story to be interesting?
