Milo's imaginary jar contained almost ideas. An umbrella for a snail. A ladder for a cloud. A bell that rang when a story needed another character.
His friend asked why he did not finish them.
I am letting them meet one another, Milo said.
They drew the snail under the cloud ladder and gave it the little bell. When it rang, a character arrived to carry the umbrella.
The jar was still full afterwards. Milo had not solved every idea. He had found a beginning for one story, and that was enough to make him open his notebook.
