Ben found a tiny door between the words puddle and pumpkin. He knocked with his pencil.
A word called Perhaps opened it. We keep the words that are not sure yet, it said.
Inside were Maybe, Almost, and a very small Not Yet. They were building a story but had not chosen the ending.
Ben suggested a boat. Almost suggested a bicycle. Perhaps wrote down both.
When Ben returned to his page, he left two possible endings beneath his story. The tiny door was gone, but he knew which word to use when he wanted to open it again.
