The Pencil That Drew a Pause

A short story about making room on a busy picture.

Read together · Original writing

Pip drew a castle, three dragons, a moon, and a sandwich in the sky. The pencil stopped.

Are you empty? Pip asked.

No, said the pencil. Your picture needs somewhere to rest.

Pip left a blank patch beside the castle. Soon she imagined a path through it. The path led to a bench, and the smallest dragon sat down there.

The sandwich stayed in the sky. Not every part needed explaining. Pip put the pencil beside the page and looked again. The quiet patch had become her favourite place to visit.

Pause & wonder

Where would you leave space in a very busy drawing?
