An observation walk on paper

Turn a familiar route into a short descriptive piece.

Original practical exercise

  1. Choose a safe route

Use a familiar public place, or observe from a window if walking is not suitable.

  2. Choose a question

Look for repairs, patterns, colour changes, or another ordinary feature.

  3. Separate seeing from guessing

Record three observations. Keep explanations in a separate list of questions.

  4. Write a small account

Use the observations to describe the route without inventing private lives behind them.

Take a moment

Which detail would another visitor probably overlook?
