After the baker closed her shop, the bell above the door was silent. Neighbours still glanced towards it when they passed. For years it had meant that someone was arriving for bread.
One Saturday, a bell rang again. The window held no pastries, only a handwritten sign: Bring a thing you can teach. Inside, the baker was showing a visitor how to mend an apron. At another table, someone explained a bicycle map.
Nobody agreed on a name for the new room. The old bell did not seem to need one. It rang for each arrival, and people kept turning their heads, now curious about what a neighbour might know.
