When the landing light broke, neighbours began leaving their doors slightly open in the evening. A strip of warm light crossed the corridor from each flat.
Nobody held a meeting about it. One person noticed the darkness and tried something; another saw the result and joined in. They still closed their doors whenever they needed to.
After the repair, the corridor was evenly lit again. A neighbour left a note thanking everyone, without listing names.
The next evening there were no bright strips across the floor. The help had ended when it was no longer needed. For a while, opening the door felt slightly different: a private room connected to people who had noticed the same small problem.
