The picnic was ready, but the rain would not stop. Bea looked at the basket. Her cousin looked at the window. “Could the picnic come to us?” he asked.
They spread a cloth on the floor. A grown-up put the wet umbrella safely by the door. The basket became their parade float, and two toy ducks led the way.
Bea announced the journey from the kitchen to the living room. Her cousin made the sound of a very small marching band. At the sofa, they sat down and shared the sandwiches.
The ducks did not eat anything. They stood beside the basket looking proud. Bea decided that the parade needed a map, even if it had only travelled through two rooms.
Try a little activity
Draw the route of an imaginary indoor parade. Keep real walkways clear.
Pause & wonder
What stayed the same when the picnic changed?
